By promoting high levels of intramuscular carnosine Beta-Alanine may help increase energy levels and support maximum muscular endurance, leading to increases in the working capacity of muscles and delaying muscle fatigue. By allowing muscles to work at a higher volume, Beta-Alanine may help increase performance and improve body composition. Note: In some individuals Beta-Alanine may cause a harmless skin flush, where the skin may become tingly and / or red for 15-20 minutes after consumption.
As training intensity increases our bodies accumulate a large amount of hydrogen ions (H+), causing our muscles pH to drop and therefore become more acidic. A reduction in muscle pH directly reduces the muscles ability to contract powerfully and maintain efficient performance throughout training sessions. An inability to constantly contract to maximal potential and exert your body to its full potential during training ultimately hampers your ability to maximally overload your muscles and force new muscle gains. Beta-Alanine facilitates the synthesis of Carnosine, a naturally occurring di-peptide found predominantly in type 2 muscle fibres. Carnosine acts as an Intra-muscular buffer preventing this reduction in pH allowing maximal contraction of muscles and a delayed onset of fatigue.
